The programme on this album originally performed on February 11, 1994, on the Casavant Organ installed in 1926 consists of works by Brahms, Rheinberger, Hindemith, Franz Schmidt, and Reger. This album was released in 2005, and dedicated to the memory of His Holiness John Paul II, and has been recognized by the Vatican. The artist on this album, has been blind from birth, and at age 14, studied with Jean Langlais, renowned Concert Organist and Composer. This album has received many favourable comments notably from a review by the well respected Canadian musician, Angus Sinclair of London, Ontario, where he stated “Is this a CD, say to give to someone who is not an organist? I’d say a definite yes... The primary objective of this concert was to fulfill the requirements of a UMich DMA, but the repertoire is so interesting and colorful that I think anyone would give this album repeated listening. Those of us that have prepared organ recitals will appreciate this CD on a deeper level: the obvious care and love that all of the repertoire receives, as well as Dr. Vandertuin’s inherent musicality, in very difficult repertoire that’s either unknown or seldom heard in this Country. Bravo!
